First, the most notable difference between floor paint and regular paint lies in their core composition. Most regular household paints, whether for wall or furniture use, are made of acrylic or latex resin as base material, with added pigment, filler and adjuvants, which are designed to form a thin, decorative film with basic stain resistance. In comparison, professional floor paint, especially epoxy-based floor coating, uses high-molecular-weight epoxy resin as the main raw material, mixed with high-strength curing agent and wear-resistant aggregate, which endows the finished film with far higher structural strength.
Second, their performance parameters vary drastically for application demands. Regular paint only needs to resist slight daily friction and minor water splash, so its wear resistance, compression resistance and chemical corrosion resistance are very limited. If you apply common wall paint on the floor, the paint film will peel off, scratch and fade after just a few weeks of walking, not to mention bearing the weight of furniture or vehicle rolling. By contrast, qualified floor paint can withstand tens of thousands of times of foot traffic, resist erosion from common detergents, engine oil and food stains, and will not crack or deform under normal heavy object pressure.
Third, their applicable scenarios and service life differ greatly. Regular paint is suitable for indoor wall, wooden furniture, art decoration and other light-use scenarios, with a service life of 2 to 5 years under normal use. Floor paint is widely used in industrial workshops, commercial supermarkets, underground parking lots, home garages and even outdoor public walkways, and its service life can reach 5 to 15 years depending on different grades. Besides, floor paint also requires stricter base surface treatment before construction: the concrete ground needs to be polished, repaired and fully sealed to ensure strong adhesion, while regular paint can be directly painted on pre-treated flat wall surface in most cases. For ordinary users, you can choose regular paint for decorative scenes that do not bear frequent friction, while pick professional floor paint for ground renovation projects to avoid extra cost of frequent rework.
